Long ago, a little girl picked a bouquet of wildflowers and placed it in her stepfather's car. She was rewarded with "this isn't a garbage truck"- true story. The flowers were dandelions.

Dandelions are edible. The entire plant can be cooked and eaten. The roots are also often used medicinally. They are one of the most nutritious of vegetables-yes, vegetables. When cooked, they are similar to spinach. They can grow in any adversity, but seem to prefer the most infertile land. Their bright heads peek out from their leaves as if to say, "Hi! HI! Isn't it a BEAUTIFUL day! Just lovely! Are you my friend? Do you want to be my friend? It's a beautiful day!"

And, yet, they're treated with annoyance, even hatred. Do you know someone like that? Someone who just tries to help and is treated badly just because they are there and not wanted? This is just something to think about as you go along with your day. Remember that not everyone is really the pest they seem.
