Saturday is Cathy's Critters Earth Day! The day we post recycling ideas for you and your pet to save you money!

Instead of recycling ideas, I'm taking another tack today. Here are some ideas to make your dog green. No, I don't mean to dye his fur! I mean make him more earth-friendly!
  1. clean up his poop- dog feces can carry parasites and also destroys the grass in the area he poops. So, be sure to clean up after him! Suggestion - composting
  2. Use green cleansers to clean up after your dog, and also to clean your dog. Most dog shampoos are toxic and can have pesticides. Buy green dog shampoo and you can bathe your dog with a clean conscience and a clean dog - although I still can't promise a cooperating dog!
  3. recycled and all natural toys, harnesses, collars, leashes and other necessities. Most of the items we use for our pets are imported - big waste of resources and made of cheap plastic -even bigger waste of resources! Buy natural and recycled items made in the USA, especially if it's made in your state (or if you're not from the USA, buy locally for your country)
  4. Get your pets spayed and neutered - I know it seems strange to alter your pet when it's more natural to leave them reproduce, but think of it this way ... pets are very overpopulated. Stop overpopulation for the life of your pet and all the others. Puppies, kittens, and bunnies may be cute, but they're cute in the shelter, too, where they have way too many as it is! If you want more pets, go to your local shelter!
  5. Buy organic food or make or grow your own.
  6. Keep your dog on a leash at all times, especially when among wildlife.
  7. Spend some time with your dog in the fresh air and sunshine! Just be responsible and keep your dog on a leash!

Do you have any green ideas for  pets? We'd be really glad to hear from you! Please leave a comment in the comments section!  Thank you!

Love,
